for deployed engineers ("DEs")

“All Roads Lead to Sales”

Deployed engineering roles can vary widely across organizations. Some DEs are “forward-deployed” (FDE) and are planted onsite with customers, acting as implementation experts. Some DEs function primarily as pre-sales engineers (SEs). Other DEs operate as the link between product and customers.

Regardless, the common function of all DEs is to deliver value to customers through their technical expertise and communication skills.

Listings for forward-deployed engineers are up 2,100% in 2026, per C&T Consulting. The problem for leading AI startups—and even the established tech giants—is that there are not enough existing deployed engineers to fill that demand. Without enough quality DEs, companies risk losing deals and churning the customers they already have.

So companies are offering elite salaries, bonus structures, and equity grants to the engineers who can help them scale their go-to-market orgs.

On the shift

Our belief at Golden Geese is that human software engineers will remain critical into the future. We also recognize that some people feel uncertainty as tectonic plates shift in the industry, especially underneath junior engineers.

There has never been a better time to make the pivot. While 2,100% growth is impressive, demand for DE and SE roles will keep growing.

We see the future of labor as a future of founders, and these GTM roles are some of the best training grounds for an engineer to become a well-rounded founder.

Our mission

Our mission at Golden Geese is to prepare you—the future deployed engineer—for these customer-facing roles and to guide you through the interview process and beyond.

Unlike many recruiting agencies, we're run by career GTM operators. We know how to prepare DEs to succeed in their GTM ecosystem, we know how impactful the best DEs are within a growing company, and we know how lucrative the rewards are for excellence in these roles.
